Tijo's Tale by Nhaar Tijo's Tale by Nhaar
And so ends my junior year at RISD! This is my last assignment to finish, and I think I've much improved this year.
Tijo's Tale is the story of a young Coatimundi who foolishly searches for his own tail. Though, it looks like someone else may find it first!

First person to name the archeological object wins!

This is SO BEAUTIFUL! And that's obviously the sarcophagus lid of Pakal the Great, ruler of the city-state of Palenque. Too easy!

It's the sarcophagus cover of Lord Pakal. He was the ruler of Palenque. This is a depiction of him decending into the Tree of Life into the pricincts of the Underworld.

Lovely work. I enjoy the brushy texture and the vivid color.

As a total coatimundi nut, I'm always looking for great art like this! Dynamic line, movement, colors, over layout...awesome!

Well, it's a stela, and that looks like a Quetzal on top of the axis mundi, but it isn't one I've studied. The scaffold patterns suggest something to do with kingship or rebirth, so perhaps that's an ahau sitting at the bottom? I'd have to see the original full on, but it is a very nice rendering!

very nice! :) Though actually it's a tombstone, not a stela..though I've turned it into one here. Maybe that'll help narrow it down.

Definitely resurrection, then! Just in the painting I'm not seeing too many water references, but I'll look it up when I have access to my library again :)

aw, man... it's Mayan, and I've seen it a hundred times, but I can't for the life of me remember the proper name without looking it up... (haha, which is half the reason I decided not to major in archaeology. >.> )

Beautiful colors... I really like the way the golds and the greens go together, and how everything seems to glow.

The best I can do as far as the art piece is to place it in South America someplace. The art is lovely though! I shall definitely be checking out your gallery after seeing this.
